Napa Community Animal Response Team (Napa CART) is a volunteer organization that works in cooperation with local agencies to ensure the best possible outcome for animals in Napa County and other areas who need assistance during an emergency, accident or disaster.
Our three-fold mission is to (1) educate the public on the animal component of disaster preparedness, response and recovery (2) assist Emergency Services in sheltering, evacuation and care of animals during a disaster and (3) provide ongoing training in animal rescue and trauma care to first responders, veterinary professionals and community volunteers.
To become a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) with Napa CART and eligible for activation in an emergency, you must meet the following requirements:
- Create a profile on Better Impact. Or start on the Volunteer Application page
a. Be sure to read and sign the Code of Conduct and Volunteer Liability Release - Complete the New Volunteer Orientation via Zoom on Friday March 28th (sign up through Better Impact!)
- Complete CERT training: www.countyofnapa.org/362/Community-Emergency-Response-Team-CERT
- Complete the following FEMA Online Courses: IS 100 and IS 200: training.fema.gov/is
- Pass a Background Check. An invitation will be emailed to you once you have completed the above requirements.
Napa CART is active on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram. Be sure to like and follow our pages. We post regular information about training opportunities, preparedness, weather and community alerts, and more. Our social media is also used to call out to volunteers when we become activated for a disaster or emergency.
Napa CART has more than just physical roles. There is always a need for volunteers in administrative and even remote roles. If you are out of the area or feel better suited in a less physical role, we’ve got a spot for you!
